Sen. Lindsey Graham Closes Door to Small Government Republicans

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R) addressed his state's Republican convention this past weekend. In his speech, he attacked small-government libertarian principles, stating, "we're not going to build this party around libertarian ideas." Senator Graham claims to be a Ronald Reagan Republican, but Reagan's own words remove any such connection. "If you analyze it," said Reagan, "I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism."
Senator Graham finished his speech by inviting those not sharing his views to find the exit. "When Ron Paul said that the war in Iraq was illegal, I disagree. When he said that President Bush and his policies brought the attack on the United States, I disagree. ... We're giong to go over there and fight them over there so they don't come over here. If you don't like that, you go somewhere else."
